Robert (Bob) Eugene Carlton, 83, of Baker City died Feb 1, 2023, at home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Baker City, OR officiated by Pastor Ian Wolfe. Vault interment will be held following the church service at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join the family for a reception and luncheon at the church after the service.
Bob was born in Fresno, CA to Stewart and Myrtle Carlton. He grew up in Salem, Oregon, and graduated from Willamette University with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education, later finishing his Master's Degree in Science from Eastern Oregon College.
He grew up in Salem, Oregon, and lived most of his adult life in Baker City with his wife, Charlene, and three children, Robin, Todd, and Laurie. Bob spent 30 years teaching middle school Science in the Halfway and Baker school districts.
Bob was a strong Christian and very devoted to his church. He had many beloved pets over the years which brought him joy. In retirement, Bob was an avid stamp collector and reader; he enjoyed fishing, traveling to National Parks, spending time with family, and catching any St. Louis Cardinals or Portland Trailblazer game on TV.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Charlene of 61 years, daughter, Robin Welter, and her husband Jeff of Tualatin, OR; son, Todd Carlton of Baker City; daughter Laurie Hufford, and her husband Doug of Deary, ID; grandchildren, Katie Hufford, Jessica Jaramillo, Amanda Welter, Christy Carrendar, Chelsea Hufford, Jared Welter as well as six great-grandchildren Alyson, Kason, Kendra, Kynlee, Lily, and Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stewart and Myrtle Carlton, and great-grandson, Cooper Carrendar.
The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the First Lutheran Church. This may be done through Coles Tribute Center, 1950 Place Street, Baker City, OR 97814.
