Mary Basche, age 95, of Baker City passed away on September 28, 2019 at her residence at Meadowbrook Place. A celebration of life will be held on October 5, 2019 from 2:00-3:00pm at Meadowbrook Place, 4000 Cedar Street, Baker City, Oregon.
Mary was born April 19th, 1924 in Portland, OR to Lyman and Mary Irving Patton. She attended school in Jefferson, Oregon; Coos River, and Baker City, Oregon. She graduated in 1942 from Baker High School.
Mary attended University of Oregon in Eugene, OR – was she a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. On April 28th, 1948 she married Paul Campbell Basche. She was strong in her faith to God. Mary was a member of PEO Sisterhood. Her previous occupations consisted of dental assistant, the telephone company and for Leo Adler. She volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital – helping to organize the Candy Stripers. Mary also volunteered at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center and Heritage Museum.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Campbell Basche, her sister, Francis Louise Patton, and her beloved daughter, Nancy Harlow Basche.
Survivors include: Betsy Irving Wilson and her husband Mike, of Baker City; Suzanne Mary McCrone of Springfield, OR; her sister, Mildred Grilley of Pendleton, OR. She had 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Mary and her special friends traveled around the world. She adored her family, had lots of friends, and enjoyed life so much. Until her final moment, she had a joyful spirit and zest for life. She loved music, dancing, and loved to flirt with men. “Yahoo!”
