Betty was born on June 2, 1931, in Beaver Creek County Montana to Lloyd and Mabel Brewer. She graduated from Huntington High School where she met her husband Corky Combs. She married Corky in 1946, settling down in Baker City raising three lively sons, Steve, Craig, and Bart. She and Corky were local entrepreneurs owning three prosperous businesses; Corky's Independent Dairy, Betty, John and Cork - BJC Ice Company, and Baker Wholesale, a food distribution company. Betty was a bookkeeper from the onset of the businesses until she retired when Baker Wholesale closed its doors in 1994. The businesses were a family affair and Betty kept their boys and Corky on a straight path for a prosperous future.
She was described as the most selfless person by her family and friends. Her beauty, her smile, and her kindness always resonated in her presence. Betty's joy in life was her family; she was a caretaker as a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She never missed a birthday to celebrate or a holiday to have a family gathering and she HAD to share her love by cooking the traditional meals and family desserts. Her love of being social was reflected by entertaining, having parties, picnicking, traveling, golfing, playing bridge, gardening, and watching her grandchildren's sporting events.
Betty was involved in many different organizations for service and hobbies. One of her most accomplished and proud moments was being named "Business Woman of the Year," for Credit Women International. She also donated her time and accounting expertise to the Social Board at the Golf Course, she was a member of the Baker City Ladies Golf Assoc., P.E.O., Elks Club, Salvation Army, Bridge Club, Birthday Club, and a devout member of the Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Corky, son Craig, sister Beverly Dame.
Survivors include her two sons, Steve Combs (Pixie), Bart Combs; grandchildren, Hannah Mercado, Sada Combs, Danielle Combs, Andrea Weimer (Tory), Jeremy Combs (Jolee),; nine great-grandchildren.
