Keith Chadwell, 80, a resident of Baker City died Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho.
Byrl Keith Chadwell was born March 24, 1939 to Roy Chadwell and Beulah Bell Chadwell in Ouray, Colorado. Although both parents were from Baker Valley, Keith spent his youth in Colorado, Utah, Baker and Newport, Oregon and graduated from high school in Moses Lake, Washington.
Following graduation, Keith enlisted in the Marine Corps and served for ten years, including duty on the USS Oriskany during the Vietnam War and as a Marine recruiter.
He married Barbara Nagy on November 28, 1959 at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station, North Carolina. They had four daughters, Kari, Diana, Brenda and Renie.
Their life adventures took them all over the Northwest. Keith was called to the ministry, sharing his teachings and music first as a minister, poet and musician, and most recently in High Country Ministries podcasts.
In retirement, Keith fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a Grand Canyon mule guide. For three years, he guided trips on packed mules down Kaibab and Bright Angel trails to the bottom of the Canyon and back.
Keith was preceded in death by parents Roy and Beulah Chadwell, and brothers Dick and Benny Chadwell.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Chadwell, daughters and their families Kari and Kerry Borgen, Hallie, Laura and Robert Borgen; Diana and Rocky Brown, Chelsea and Jess Blatchford, Chris and Jake Brown; Brenda and Ty McPherson, Katie and Jim Hurlburt and Kyle Bratcher; and Renie and Larry Hart, Bryan Mayer and Morgan Chadwell. Keith has five great-grandsons and one more on the way.
