Ernest Loyd Shields Jr. 77, a resident of Baker City died Wednesday in Ashley Manor. Memorial services for Mr. Shields was held Monday May 8, 2017 at 3:00 PM in the Coles Tribute Center. Pastor Jon Privett of The Baker City Church of The Nazarene officiated. Inurnment and military honors will be held in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR.
Mr. Shields was born March 2, 1940 in Portland, OR, a son of Ernest Loyd and Dorothy (Dick) Shields Sr. He graduated from Shoreline High School in Seattle, WA in 1958 and enlisted into the US Marine Corps, serving until 1964, he was a Lance Corporal.
Mr. Shields worked in the Ron Tonkin Chevrolet Parts Dept, retiring in 2002. He married Betty Neff in Baker City, OR April 29, 2000.
Mr. Shields enjoyed woodworking, bird watching and family time.
He is survived by his wife Betty Neff Shields, Baker City, OR;sister & brother-in-law, Jean Ann & Russell Bailey, Oregon City, OR; brother & sister-in-law, Donald & Chris Singleterry, Linwood, WA; niece & nephew-in-law, Julie &John Stevens, Appleton,WA; nephew, Steven Shields, White Salmon,WA; nephew, Tim Sprauer, Salem, OR; niece, Annie Pena, Salem, OR. After his marriage to Betty, he gained 3 adult stepchildren and 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, 7 great nieces and 4 great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert L. Shields and a sister Linda L. Sprauer.
